Description

ScratchJr is a visual programming language that allows children to create interactive stories, animations, and games using a block-based coding interface. The Asteroid game is a project that can be found in the ScratchJr app, it is a game where the player controls a spaceship and must avoid incoming asteroids while collecting stars. Overall, the Asteroid game in Scratch Jr is a fun and interactive way for children to learn the basics of coding and programming, while also developing problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Scratch Jr. allows young learners to get a head start on their coding education and practice the fundamentals of coding using a simple, student-friendly interface. In the process, students will not only have a blast learning, but they will also learn how to think outside the box, reason systematically, and work collaboratively- each an essential skill in today’s society. Scratch Jr. is fun, easy to use, and requires no previous coding experience in order to excel, so come join us as we explore the exciting world of coding!

Instructor's Bio:

My specialty is that I can get the most out of my students using mainly positive reinforcement, since I started teaching, I have been primarily teaching an extracurricular activity, so the challenge was to motivate and discipline kids mainly by having a fun environment. I can turn boring projects into fun by just being silly and having fun with the students. E.g., I had to teach string manipulations the other day, which is boring, so I came up with a terrible rap about strings, the students loved it and we were all laughing and coming up with different ways to manipulate and change the raps. Another advantage I have when teaching is I am an avid gamer, so it's easy for me to relate material with the kids’ favorite games.
