Description

Ever dreamed of owning a pet hedgehog, penguin, or even dragon? The sky's the limit when you make your own virtual pet using Scratch! This is a beginner-level class for students who have no or limited experience in block-based coding.

Scratch is a free visual programming language and online community. It was designed to help kids learn how to program visually with blocks that snap together to create a group of instructions, known as scripts. These scripts control objects, known as sprites, in your projects. Students will use Scratch to code their own interactive stories, animations, and games. In the process, they will learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively? — essential skills for everyone in today’s society.

Students will:

  • Gain confidence using the Scratch interface
  • Explore coding concepts
  • Motions
  • Looks
  • Sounds
  • Events
  • Loops

We will learn new ways to communicate using the latest digital technologies. The topics I have been focusing on are Coding, Robotics, 3D Modeling, Spatial Visualization, Math/Logic Games, Virtual Reality, and Encryption. My teaching and learning philosophy stem from the five p’s of creative learning (projects, passion, play, peers, and purpose). I learned this technique at MIT through friends I have made the past couple years while attending the conferences in Boston.
