Description

Want to make your "good" writer a "GREAT" writer? To earn top holistic rubric scores for writing, students need creativity, sentence fluency, and a sophisticated sense of voice. Through mini-lessons, standardized testing rubric study, and focused writing activities, students will learn how to revise their own writing pieces for sophisticated voice, creativity, and fluency, including instruction in:

Sophisticated Word Choice (adding adjectives, adverbs, action verbs, and clauses for a more sophisticated writing voice);
Concise and Precise Word Choice (eliminate redundancy & choose appropriate vocabulary to convey meaning and aid fluency perfectly);
Sentence Variety (mixing sentences of varying lengths and structures to create higher interest and fluency);
Figurative Language (using metaphors, similes, idioms, and personification to create better visuals for readers); and
Creative Hooks (begin writing the piece with an imaginative BANG!)

*Unfortunately, this class does not allow drop-ins. Each class builds upon prior courses.

Instructor's Bio:

Hi, my name is Heather, and I have 11+ years of experience in English Language Arts education in grades 2, 6, and 12. My specialties are reading Comprehension and skills Development, Writing Process and composition, Creative Writing, and writer's Notebook. I am trained in A.P. English Language and composition. I have a passion for writing and hope to instill that passion in my students.
