Writing a persuasive or argumentative essay is an essential skill required on state standardized tests and some gifted entrance exams. This writing course will teach your child how to write a five-paragraph, persuasive essay from start to finish. Instruction will include understanding the writing prompt, brainstorming compelling ideas for the intended audience, writing a strong opening that grabs the reader's attention, constructing a thesis statement, paragraph & essay structure, using transitions, including vital details and elaboration, and refuting the opposing point of view.

Instructor's Bio:
Hi, my name is Heather, and I have 11+ years of experience in English Language Arts education in grades 2, 6, and 12. My specialties are reading Comprehension and skills Development, Writing Process and composition, Creative Writing, and writer's Notebook. I am trained in A.P. English Language and composition. I have a passion for writing and hope to instill that passion in my students.
