Description

Reading comprehension is crucial for academic progress across all subjects. Context clues, fluency, and vocabulary are essential to academic achievement across all core content areas.

This class will allow students to read aloud, work on understanding, and connect ideas conveyed in the text they read. The class will explore many grade-appropriate texts, such as history, science, folk, and fairy tales.

Learning Objectives
In this course, students will gain a better understanding of the following concepts:

Vocabulary
Phonics and pronunciation
Compare and contrast multiple texts
Using context clues and decoding stories
Comprehension of literary & nonfiction texts
Identifying main ideas & supporting details

Instructor's Bio:

Marcie has been working with children and the arts for over 20 years. She is a licensed preschool and elementary teacher with a master’s degree in the creative arts-integrated curriculum. She has studied at NYU’s musical theater conservatory and travelled the world as a singer/songwriter with top 10 major label dance releases. She wrote and recorded a children’s album, and regularly performs children’s music all over New England.

Marcie wrote and directed a musical last year for child actors in Cambridge, MA. She has been teaching for Testing Mom since May, and is thrilled to be working with your children.
