Be a Speedier Reader: Increase Reading Speed, Fluency, and Comprehension (5th-6th Grade)

Is your child the last one to finish reading assignments in the classroom? Is he or she struggling to keep up with reading in class? Or maybe it just seems to take your child far too long to finish readings assigned for homework? Then this class is just right for your child! Join Teacher Heather as she helps students read faster and with better precision and comprehension.

Heather will lead your child through practice activities that will help your child read with better automaticity and accuracy to become a speedier reader. Age-appropriate reading materials will be chosen for each class.  including high-frequency sight word drills; irregularly spelled sight word practice; common phrases practice; repetitive reading; choral reading; or reader's theater. Each session will end with the practice of a key reading skill to support comprehension.

• Using context clues and decoding stories
• Identifying main ideas & supporting details
• Repetitive Reading
• Choral Reading: or Reader's Theater
