Description

Welcome to our Nonfiction Reading Comprehension Book Camp for students in grades 4th through 6th! Join us for an exciting adventure into the world of high-interest nonfiction texts, where students will develop essential reading skills and foster critical thinking habits. 

In this immersive and engaging book camp, we aim to inspire a love for nonfiction reading while equipping students with the tools necessary to comprehend and analyze complex texts. Our book camp focuses on developing essential reading comprehension skills. Through interactive activities, discussions, and exercises, students will enhance their ability to understand, interpret, and analyze nonfiction texts. They will learn strategies for finding main ideas, identifying supporting details, making inferences, and drawing conclusions. 

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will be able to identify and analyze text features.
  • Determine a central idea and write an objective summary for a nonfiction text.
  • Students will be able to understand and analyze different text structures within a nonfiction text.

 

*Unfortunately, this class does not allow drop-ins. Each class builds upon prior classes.

Instructor's Bio:

Engagement is the key to learning! I foster engagement through the use of humor, a strong rapport with my students, and visual aids. Often times I will use examples that students are familiar with and excited about. Comparing a term or situation to their favorite Marvel character may mean the difference between committing a situation to memory or not
