Forsyth County Gifted and Talented Testing
What is the Forsyth County Gifted and Talented Program?
Forsyth County does not offer a lot of information about their gifted program. They do say that their program focuses on developing critical thinking and research skills. Teachers use differentiation techniques while teaching to ensure students are challenged.
Students may be referred for consideration for the gifted program by teachers, parents, themselves, or anyone who is familiar with their abilities. Students are also screened using standardized tests. A qualifying score on the test automatically refers the student for further testing and consideration.
Students are tested in four areas: mental ability, achievement, motivation, and creativity. The district does not provide the specific tests used in each area, however, typically the CogAT is used for mental ability, the Iowa Basic Skills Assessments is used for achievement, and the Torrance is used for creativity. Having your child practice with questions from these tests will prepare them for these different categories.
