Description

Testing Mom Adventures in Reading presents, “The Boxcar Children,” by Gertrude Chandler Warner. Join us as we follow the Alden kids, Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny orphaned siblings who live in a boxcar in the woods. We will travel with them as they explore the world, solve mysteries and search for a home along the way.

Reading for pleasure can open up a new world of learning possibilities for learners of all ages. Sharing and discussing their reading in a group setting can dramatically expand this learning opportunity for students. Research has proven the educational and developmental benefits of reading, and talking about reading is the next step in supporting the growth of young readers.

Each session will start with a review of homework (questions about what was read during the previous session), followed by a discussion on what occurred during the last session's reading. Then we will continue where we left off, with everyone reading a different section out loud (optional). We will start with the first book in the series, “The Boxcar Children.”

Note: This weekly ongoing class will cover all the books in the series.

*Prerequisite: Ability to read at the 2nd-grade level*

Hey there! My name is Sam and I am excited to work with your child. I keep kids engaged and challenged. Those are the two themes that are constant in my teaching. I use humor, experience, and wit to constantly keep the students guessing and wanting to guess. I have been teaching for over 12 years, and have taught English (K-12), History (K-12), and Public Speaking (K-12). If you ever have any questions or comments, please reach out to me!
