Description

Intermediate Chess for Kids is a course designed for children who already have a basic understanding of chess and are ready to take their skills to the next level. In this course, students will learn advanced chess strategies and tactics that will enable them to play more competitively and confidently.

Throughout the course, students will also have the opportunity to play against each other and receive feedback and guidance from the instructor. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of chess and be able to play at a more competitive level.

IMPORTANT!: This class is for students who have completed at least TWO Intro. or Beginner classes in Chess.

Also, please make sure that prior to class your child has created a Lichess account. It creates confusion, and wasted class time if students don't already have the account set up and are ready to go.

Students will learn the following:

  • Advanced chess openings: Students will learn more complex opening moves and how to create a solid opening strategy.
  • Tactical combinations
  • Endgame strategies: Students will learn how to play through the endgame, with an emphasis on understanding pawn structures and promoting pawns.
  • Planning and analysis: Students will be taught how to analyze a game and develop a plan based on the board's position.

Prior to Class:

1. Please open a free account at lichess.org with the following format applied to the username {First name (first letter of the last name)test5} for example "John Smith" would be JohnStest5. Please select a regular account (not a child account) because only the regular version is able to receive messages such as links that will be provided throughout the training.

Here is a youtube video tutorial on creating a lichess.org account.

2. It is recommended students use two devices. One device such as a desktop or laptop to do the zoom video part while another device such as an iPad, smartphone, or android tablet will be used to log on to lichess.org to actually play chess and make moves and play online.

Important Note: Our system will send you the link to join the class 30 minutes before the start time of the class.
