Description

The path to testing success begins with a single word… VOCABULARY! Come join us for an engaging new vocabulary learning experience with our Vocabulary Academy. In this series of classes, students will work with our instructor to master new words... and not just any words- words that will directly impact your student’s ability to succeed on standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, and PSAT. Students will participate in collaborative learning activities focused on targeted vocabulary skill techniques, all while having fun and working toward the coveted “Academic Vocabulary Scholar” certification.

We will work on recognizing word parts: roots, prefixes, and suffixes. We’ll cover analogies, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and homophones. We’ll cover how to handle vocabulary questions during tests by using context clues and other techniques. Words will change weekly so your child will be able to master tons of challenging words.

Learning Objectives

In this class, students will:

  • Acquire new academic vocabulary terms using the Concept Sort method.
  • Practice identifying parts of speech of newly learned words.
  • Use newly acquired vocabulary to form complete sentences.

Important Note: Our system will send you the link to join the class 30 minutes before the start time of the class.

Owen says:

Ms. Marla is very focused and professional. She engages well with students. She is thorough with content and preparation. Each student is engaged, happy, and active in her classes because of Ms. Marla and the way she teaches her lessons. My daughter had lots of fun with a variety of learning tools -- videos, sight words, writing, sounds, etc. I think she found them both fun and fulfilling.

Lewis says:

Significant progress with Marla! The class is very well structured, interactive, and targeted.

Shantell says:

Marla kept everyone involved by encouraging them to share their thoughts and ideas and stories. She was enthusiastic and well organized. She had different methods of learning from videos to songs and books and their own story creating. My son could not wait each day for it to start.

Kim says:

4- Stars for the class, but 5- Stars for the Instructor! I think this class was too advanced for my 5-year-old Pre-K student since she doesn\'t even know how to read 3 letter words. However, she enjoyed the class and I would sign up again because she still got a lot of practice writing and participating in a class.

Akhila says:

5- stars! Good Class and instructor.

Joanna says:
