Have you ever read the first line of a story or book and immediately wanted to read the whole thing? Creative beginnings are the way to go! In this course, students will learn how to create catchy story beginnings. This class will focus on building students’ competency of basic writing skills while using their creativity to develop intriguing and exciting story beginnings. This course will focus on expressive writing in many different forms.
Originality and writing that shows thought will be emphasized. Strategies to avoid writer’s block and new ways to uncover ideas for writing will be studied. Students will take part in writing activities, games, and then put their writing skills to the test to compose a final product. By the end of the class, the students will have a creative beginning to share with their peers.

Instructor Bio:
Hi, my name is Hilary, and as an educator, I work to provide interactive, engaging, hands-on activities that enhance students’ learning during our time together. I enjoy learning about their lives and listening to their experiences. Creating personal connections is a key component of my teaching style. During class, I teach by going at the student's speed. If a student has difficulties, we will work together to break down the problem and work through it the best way possible.

I received a grant for spreading happiness throughout the community. With this grant, I
collaborated with teachers in the school district to send HAPPY Mail surprises to individuals in
the community. Some of the surprises may or may not have had confetti!
